Anaheim Ducks (4) vs. Dallas Stars (5)

Dallas Wins 4-2

Game Recaps

Game 1: The Anaheim Ducks committed 11 penalties to the Stars' 7, and Dallas took full advantage, throttling the champion Ducks with four power play goals.

There were no even strength goals in the contest.

When Travis Moen took an elbowing penalty, and Brian Sutherby a cross-checking call, both in the offensive zone, the Stars pounced. Steve Ott redirected a well-placed wrist shot from Stephane Robidas and Loui Eriksson converted a Brad Richards pass to give Dallas a 2-0 lead that would prove to be more than enough.

Marty Turco made 23 saves, while J-S Giguere was far busier, stopping 33 of 37.

Dallas outhustled the Ducks throughout, which led to one penalty after another for Anaheim. Even strength wasn't much better for the Ducks, who were outworked so badly that through the second half of the first period until late in the second, the club went over 19 minutes without a shot on goal.

Doug Weight was a healthy scratch for the Ducks in game one, replaced by rookie Ryan Carter.

Dallas leads 1-0

Game 2:

Mike Modano scored a power play goal on a booming shot from the blueline that beat J-S Giguere at 5:47 of the third period.  It proved to be the game winner as again the Dallas Stars outworked the Ducks in Anaheim.

Brad Richards and Loui Eriksson each had a goal and an assist, and Joel Lundqvist had two helpers as the Stars' second line took full advantage of its opportunities.

Mike Ribiero had an unassisted breakaway goal in the first period after a Francois Beauchemin turnover.

Dallas has now scored six power play goals in two games and return home in command of the series.

J-S Giguere of Anaheim allowed five goals on 30 shots, while Dallas' Marty Turco was stellar again, stopping 20 of 22.

Dallas leads 2-0

Game 3:

Chris Pronger scored two power play goals as the Ducks built a 4-0 lead at American Airlines Arena Tuesday, en route to a 4-2 victory over the Stars.

Todd Marchant and Ryan Getzlaf scored two first period goals to give the Ducks a two goal lead.

Pronger, who was paired with Scott Niedermayer on a night in which every Duck offensive line, and two of its three defensive pairings, were scrambled up and down the lineup.  Rookie Ryan Carter played second line center, and veteran Doug Weight played on the fourth line.  Brad May saw action on the first line with Getzlaf and Selanne.

J-S Giguere made a slew of big saves as he stopped 31 of 33 Dallas shots.  Marty Turco looked sloppy, stopping only 11 of 15 Anaheim shots.

Brendan Morrow had two goals for the Stars.

Dallas leads 2-1

Game 4:

The Stanley Cup champion Anaheim Ducks head home to Honda Center Friday facing elimination after the Dallas Stars scored a 3-1 victory Thursday, echoing the score in the series itself.

Joel Lundqvist opened the scoring for Dallas at 16:39 of the first.

Third period goals by Stu Barnes and Steve Ott sealed the Ducks' fate.

"Dallas is outplaying us," Ducks goalie Jean-Sebastien Giguere said. "We just haven't played at the level we need to be successful."

Mathieu Schneider scored a late goal for the Ducks, who have scored only seven goals in the first four games of the series, and have been shut out in two games.

Defenseman Phillipe Boucher was injured, clearing room for Marc Fistric, who made his playoff debut. Goaltender Marty Turco scored a near shutout with his depleted defensive corps. Turco said that the Stars' defense was "amazing to watch."

Dallas leads 3-1

Game 5:

Teemu Selanne pounded home a rebound from a Chris Pronger shot that caromed off the boards behind Marty Turco which proved to be the game winner as the Ducks staved off elimination Friday night by defeating the Stars 5-2 at Honda Center.

Selanne, Ryan Getzlaf and Sean O'Donnell all had a goal and an assist.

The series, now led by Dallas 3-2, returns to American Airlines Arena Sunday.

J-S Giguere stopped 40 Dallas shots and the Duck penalty kill units denied the Stars on all seven Dallas man advantage opportunities.

"I guess desperation is descriptive," Anaheim coach Randy Carlyle said of the Ducks' performance. "I thought Giguere was the best player on the ice tonight.

Mike Ribiero and Mattias Norstrom scored for Dallas.

Dallas leads 3-2

Game 6:

The Dallas Stars beat the defending Stanley Cup Champion Ducks 4-1 at American Airlines Arena Sunday, eliminating Anaheim in six games.

The Anaheim Ducks led, 1-0 after two periods after a Corey Perry goal which beat Marty Turco through the five-hole at 2:11 of the second period.

The Ducks carried the play for the first two periods, and played an excellent game defensively, until Ryan Carter took a holding penalty at :17 of the third period.  Stephane Robidas evened the score at one apiece on the ensuing power play at 1:18, and just 52 seconds later, assisted on Stu Barnes game winner at  2:10.

Turco, who stopped 17 of 18 Anaheim shots, was solid.  J-S Giguere stopped 23 Dallas shots.

The Ducks were stung by penalty trouble and a lack of offense in the regular season, which translated into problems during the postseason.
