Want the Cup?  Finish 1-4 in Conference

 Share/Bookmark

Eastern vs. Western Conferences in effect since 1993-94 season:

Related: Round 1 Schedule

Only four times in 15 seasons since the NHL went to East/West has a team finished lower than second in its conference and won the Stanley Cup.

Only one team, the 94-95 Devils (in a lockout year) has finished lower than fourth and won.  Food for thought...October and November games really matter.  Gotta get lots of points, and it's best to start each series with two games at home, plus games 5 and 7 if necessary...notice that a few Cup finalists finished 6th, 7th, 8th, but to win it all, it's in the home cookin'!

Place of finish and number of Stanley Cup winners since 1993-4:

1st place: 7 Winners / 2nd: 4 Winners / 3rd: 1 Winner / 4th: 2 Winners / 5th: 1 Winner
6th, 7th, 8th = None.
