GAME 4 PREVIEW: The Philadelphia Flyers were
rewarded in Game 3 for again winning the special
teams battle. The Flyers are now 4-10 with the man
advantage, the Blackhawks, 0-6. Smart play by most
of the Flyers has kept the series close. Chicago's
ineffective power play has kept them from pulling
away in the series. Game 3 was significant for
obvious reasons: The Flyers, despite their historic
comeback against the Bruins in round 2, would have
been finished had they fallen behind 3-0. The
Blackhawks must rebound in Game 4 or risk losing
control of the series. Philadelphia has also won the
shots-on-goal battle. After each team recorded 32
shots in Game 1, Philly recorded six extra shots in
Game 2 and outshot Chicago by five in Game 3. This
might seem slight, but since each game in the series
has been decided by one goal, it matters. Chicago's
edge at this point is that their depth guys are
scoring. Philly may have gotten a goal from Ville
Leino in Games 1 and 3, and Blair Betts and Aaron
Asham in Game 1, but the Blackhawks seem to have
better offensive upside in the third- and
fourth-lines and on defense than do the Flyers. Game
4 is everything for the Flyers, while a Chicago
victory would be a major nail in the Flyers' coffin.

GAME 2 PREGAME NOTEBOOK:
5/31/10 -- 11:53AM EASTERN -- It makes a lot
of sense that it was Tomas Kopecky who scored the game-winner for the
Blackhawks in Game 1. When you look at how tightly matched the clubs are, it
could be that the competition between each club's third- and fourth-liners
will prove most likely to produce the key goals. It seems that Kopecky and
Madden, also Dave Bolland and Adam Burish, might be able to generate more
scoring opportunities than Darroll Powe, Ian Laperriere and Blair Betts.
Troy Brouwer's two goals and Marian Hossa's brilliant passes on both efforts
offer further proof that the Blackhawks might have just a bit too much depth
offensively than the Flyers. I continue to expect some maddening one-goal
losses by the Flyers, who won't be out of any game in this series. Game 2 is
everything for the Flyers now; salvaging the series after two road losses is
highly unlikely. Look for the Flyers to throw the house at Michael Leighton.
An extra 5-10 shots just might offer a chance at a deciding goal. As obvious
as that sounds, it does matter whether the Flyers keep their feet on the
throttle. --Ed.

Flyers surge, Hawks hope for home turnaround
by Charles Smith
So far, this series has had a little bit of
everything. Overtime goals, lead changes, late-period goals, rookies scoring
game-tying and game-winning goals, rookies shrinking in the face of veteran
greatness, and a goaltending battle with both netminders firing on all
cylinders.
Chris
Pronger's Second Act
by Charles Smith
As the Philadelphia Flyers prepare for the apex of their most unlikely run to
the Stanley Cup final, one impressive body of work in particular continues to
grow. Chris Pronger (left) has been in the Stanley Cup final three times in the
last five seasons.
How the Cup
Finalists Were Built
by Chris Kober
On the surface the two teams seem quite similar. They each have three lines that
can score through pure skill or relentless grit; each boasts a stable of
stalwart defensemen and previously untested goaltending...however, the season
has seen them take very different paths to the Final.

What a Difference a Generation Makes
Bill, Rocky and the trip from '92 to '10

clings to his views and wanders alone, his empire operating at diminished
capacity over the years, unable to achieve the success he craves.
