Berlin Polarbears played the Freezers of Hamburg. This series were predicted to go over 5 games and so it happened. In the semi finals the Polarbears are waiting for the Metro Stars. With Jamie Storr between the pipes the Stars are playing much better and are a real cup contender. The Cologne Sharks were playing the reigning champion the Mannheim Eagles. It was the expected thrilling series which didn´t go over the full distance of seven games. But the first four games (4-3 Col, 2-1 Man, 5-4 (OT) Col, 4 –3 (OT) Col, 4-1 Col) had been an advertisement for the sport of hockey. After the series was tied at one there was the second longest hockey game played, which ended at 8:16 minutes into the sixth overtime when Philip Gogulla (drafted by the NHL’s Sabres) scored the winning goal. |

After eliminating the reigning regular
season champ (Nuremberg) Sinupret Ice Tigers, the Metro Stars were hoping for
the next
surprise – but lost the first and third match of these series @ the Capital´s
Polarbears. Match # 4 was decided by Brandon Reid
who scored three great goals. But the home advantage decided this series - the
Polarbears won the decisive match in the best of five series.
# 3 the Cologne Sharks won the first
game very easily vs. the Lions with a score of 7-1. The second game @ Frankfurt
was
decided in overtime by the Lions. Game # 3 @ Cologne again was decided in OT by
NHL proved Ivan Ciernik (Ott & Was)
who already has 10 goals in as many games. The Lions tied the best of five
series at 2 each. Also here the home advantage
made the difference: In a thrilling match defender Mirko Ludemann scored two
minutes before the end the golden goal – 3-2.
