Blues bounce back with D’Agostini, Elliott and return of Colaiacovo
Starting goaltender job seized by Elliott

HOCKEYTALK NEWS UPDATE

OCTOBER 23, 2011 -- While Jaro Halak has struggled (1-4-0), backup Brian Elliott has sparkled in his three appearances, beating the Sharks in San Jose, the road-red-hot Carolina Hurricanes in St. Louis and Flyers in Philadelphia.

Consider the Blues' goaltending controversy to be official now.

The club started slow with Halak. With the team up for purchase, and the organization growing increasingly impatient. Elliot's 34 saves in his second consecutive start Saturday night at Philly plus some huge saves late steered the hard-charging Blues to victory.

25-year-old Matt D'Agostini, coming off his first 20-plus goal season (21) scored the overtime winner. D'Agostini has formed a trio with T.J. Oshie and David Backes. D’Agostini sealed a 4-2 victory Saturday night in Philly

Defenseman Carlo Colaiacovo has been part of the get-well tonic for St. Louis as well. Since returning to the lineup over the past two games, the former Maple Leaf recorded a game-winning goal vs. Philly (plus an assist). The Blues toppled Carolina in his first game back.

It seems that the Blues have started to assert themselves in the wake of the concussion suffered by team leader Andy McDonald on October 13 in the third game of the season at Dallas.
