Doug Weight signs one-year deal: 2nd as captain Doug Weight returns for his second season as captain of the Islanders UNIONDALE, NY (August 31, 2010) – The New York Islanders have agreed to terms on a one-year contract with team captain Doug Weight. A veteran of 19 NHL seasons and 1,220 career games, Weight returns for his third year with the Islanders. In 36 games last season, the Detroit, Michigan native scored seventeen points (1 goal and 16 assists). “Doug has played an important role in helping to develop our young players over the past two seasons and we’re excited to see him continue his historic career on Long Island,” Islanders General Manager Garth Snow said. Islanders acquire Wisniewski Defenseman acquired from Ducks in exchange for conditional third round pick in 2011 Draft UNIONDALE, NY, July 30, 2010 – The New York Islanders have acquired James Wisniewski from the Anaheim Ducks in exchange for a conditional third round pick in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft. Wisniewski, 26, finished second among Ducks defensemen in scoring and seventh on the team with a career-high 30 points (three goals, 27 assists) in 69 games last season. The Canton, Michigan native also led Anaheim in blocked shots with 102, ranked second on the team with 129 hits and finished fourth among skaters in average ice time at 24:20. "We see James as a key addition to our team and we feel our fans will connect with his style of play," said Islanders General Manager Garth Snow. "He is a solid puck-moving defenseman who can bring an added element of toughness to our blue-line." Wisniewski, a 5’11, 197 pound defenseman, has split his pro career between the Chicago Blackhawks and Anaheim Ducks, playing in a total of 254 games. He has totaled 97 points (17 goals, 80 assists) with 264 penalty minutes. Chicago’s fifth round selection (156th overall) in the 2002 NHL Entry Draft has also posted 70 points (17 goals, 53 assists) in 139 AHL games with the Norfolk Admirals and Rockford IceHogs. Wisniewski made his professional debut with Norfolk in the 2004-05 season, after completing a four-year Junior career with the Plymouth Whalers of the Ontario Hockey League. In his final season with Plymouth, Wisniewski was named the OHL and Canadian Major Junior Defenseman of the Year, and was named to both the OHL and Canadian Major Junior First All-Star Teams. Moulson, 26, led the Islanders with a career-high 30 goals last season, and finished fourth on the team with a personal-best 48 points. The North York, ON, native was also one of three Islanders to play in all 82 games, also leading the team and ranking 24th in the NHL with five game winning goals. “Matt is one of our young core of players and we’re excited to have him return this upcoming season,” Islanders General Manager Garth Snow said. “He was an integral part of our lineup last season, playing in all 82 games and hitting the 30-goal plateau for the first time in his career.” The 6’1, 206 lbs. left wing, has skated in 111 career NHL games with both the Islanders and Los Angeles Kings, totaling 58 points (36 goals, 22 assists). Moulson was the Pittsburgh Penguins’ ninth round selection (263rd overall) in the 2003 NHL Entry Draft. He has also posted 160 points (74 goals, 86 assists) in 188 AHL games, all with the Manchester Monarchs. Moulson made his professional debut with Manchester in the 2006-07 season after his four-year collegiate career at Cornell University.
