BRIND'AMOUR TO HAVE RECONSTRUCTIVE KNEE SURGERY Hurricanes captain suffered a torn ACL during Thursday's game; will miss 4-6 months February 15, 2008 -- RALEIGH, NC- Jim Rutherford, President and General Manager of the National Hockey League's Carolina Hurricanes, today announced that center Rod Brind'Amour will have reconstructive knee surgery after suffering a torn anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in his left knee during the first period of Thursday night's game against the Pittsburgh Penguins. Dr. Marty Isbell will perform the procedure on Friday at Rex Hospital, and Brind'Amour is expected to be out of action for four to six months.
'CANES ACQUIRE CORVO AND EAVES FROM SENATORS Carolina trades Commodore and Stillman to Ottawa RALEIGH, NC-Jim Rutherford, President and General Manager of the National Hockey League's Carolina Hurricanes, announced today that the team has acquired defenseman Joe Corvo and right wing Patrick Eaves from the Ottawa Senators, in exchange for defenseman Mike Commodore and left wing Cory Stillman. Corvo and Eaves will be available for the Hurricanes' game on Tuesday at Boston. "We're pleased to acquire a very good, young player in Patrick, and address a need for a mobile defenseman who can move the puck on the power play like Joe," said Rutherford. "We are very thankful to Cory and Mike as two great contributors to the Hurricanes, including during our Stanley Cup run of 2006." Corvo, 30, has played in 51 of the Senators' 56 games this season and ranks first among team defensemen with 15 power-play points (1g, 14a). Among Ottawa defensemen, Corvo ranks second in points (27) and assists (21), tied for second with six goals, and fourth with a plus-7 plus/minus rating, while averaging 17:41 of ice time per game. Corvo's 27 points this season rank him tied for 23rd among all NHL defensemen in scoring. The Oak Park, Ill., native is in his ninth professional season following a three-year collegiate career at Western Michigan, and in 330 NHL regular-season games with the Los Angeles Kings and the Senators, he has notched 41 goals, earned 100 assists (141 points) and accumulated 148 penalty minutes. The Kings selected Corvo (6'0", 204 lbs.) in the fourth round, 83rd overall, in the 1997 NHL Entry Draft, and he signed as a free agent with Ottawa on July 1, 2006. Corvo ranked fifth among all NHL defenseman with nine points (2g, 7a) in the 2007 Stanley Cup playoffs, helping the Senators to the Eastern Conference championship. Eaves, 23, has played in 26 games with the Senators this season, recording four goals and six assists (10 points). The Fairbault, MN, native suffered a separated shoulder on Nov. 21 at Buffalo and missed 24 games before returning to Ottawa's lineup on Jan. 15. He has missed Ottawa's last six games with a shoulder/neck injury suffered at Tampa Bay on Jan. 24. Eaves (5'11", 190 lbs.) is in his third professional season after the Senators selected him in the first round, 29th overall, in the 2003 NHL Entry Draft. He played three years of collegiate hockey at Boston College prior to turning professional, and in 157 NHL regular-season games, he has notched 38 goals and earned 33 assists (71 points).
