The Blues became the first team to be pushed to the brink of elimination as Vancouver's power play converted three of five opportunities.  Steve Bernier scored the game winner with the man advantage early in the third period.  Sami Salo had two assists, Matty Ohlund a goal and Alex Edler and Kevin Bieksa an assist each as the Canucks continued to receive strong offensive contributions from their defensemen.

St. Louis is relying on their forwards to do everything, and they're getting stung.  Their normally good PK has been struggling.  --JB

Game 2: VAN 3 STL 0

VAN: Sundin, M. (18:04 in 2nd), Burrows, A. (09:46 in 3rd), Sedin, H. (EN, 18:36 in 3rd)

In his first playoff game as a Vancouver Canuck, veteran center Mats Sundin received a shiner on his right eye. In his second game, he was a shining star. The 38 year old center's 36th playoff goal was a game winner as the Canucks beat the St. Louis Blues 3-0 to take a 2-0 lead in their opening round playoff series.

Sundin perfectly deflected a pass from linemate Pavol Demitra through the legs of Blues goalie Chris Mason at 18:04 of the second period to give the Canucks the lead. Alex Burrows netted a insurance goal when he stuffed in a wrap around goal at 9:46 of the final stanza, while Daniel Sedin added an empty net goal to close the scoring. Vancouver's Roberto Luongo recorded his first Stanley Cup playoff shutout stopping 30 shots. --DB

STL: Boyes, B. (PPG, 18:16 in 2nd)
VAN: Sedin, D. (10:03 in 1st), Salo, S. (PPG, 05:11 in 2nd)

Vancouver's fast, strong defense was the difference as Sami Salo chipped in the game winner from the blueline and the Canucks stifled St. Louis in game one.
