This season, Hockeytalk presents three
different columnists’ takes on the first round of the NHL playoffs: Leon
Rafner, Josh Brewster and Dennis Bernstein. Stats compiled by Jason
Reed. (Back to Playoff Main Page)
1. SAN JOSE SHARKS VS. 8. ANAHEIM DUCKS ANA WINS 4-2 RESULTS: Game 6: ANA 4 SJS 1 SJS: Michalek, M. (PPG, 10:19 in 1st) ANA: Perry, C. (PPG, 12:33 in 1st), Selanne, T. (PPG, 13:03 in 2nd), Beauchemin, F. (14:26 in 2nd), Getzlaf, R. (17:04 in 3rd) Game 5: SJS 3 ANA 2 (OT) SJS: Thornton, J. (PPG, 07:25 in 1st),

Perry added a goal and an assist as the Ducks scored three even-strength
goals plus an empty-netter to take a 3-1 lead in the series, pushing the
Sharks to the brink of elimination. Jonas Hiller recorded his
second shutout of the postseason, stopping all 31 San Jose shots.
Game 3: SJS 4 ANA 3 SJS: Blake, R. (05:34 in 1st), Boyle, D.
(PPG, 13:07 in 1st), Boyle, D. (01:05 in 2nd), Marleau, P. (PPG, 10:33
in 3rd) Game 2: ANA 3 SJS 2 ANA: Ryan, B. (PPG, 03:45 in 1st), Ebbett,
A. (09:44 in 3rd), Miller, D. (13:17 in 3rd) Todd Marchant continued his habit of winning key faceoffs as the Anaheim Ducks pulled off another shocker by again beating the San Jose Sharks 3-2 in San Jose to take a commanding two games to none lead in this opening series. The befuddled Sharks will now play two games in Anaheim, needing to win at least one to avoid being swept. The Ducks again killed off six penalties to keep San Jose scoreless on the power play. Bobby Ryan, Andrew Ebbett and Drew Miller all scored their first ever playoff goals. A third period goal by Jonathan Cheechoo cut the Ducks lead to 3-2, but it was too little too late as Ducks' goalie Jonas Hiller would not yield another. San Jose All-Stars Joe Thornton and Patrick Marleau are in the midst of yet another headscratching post-season. The pair have but one point between them in the series and the Sharks' power play which at 24% was third overall in the regular season is a punchless 0 for 12 so far this post-season. This is baptism by fire for first year Sharks coach Todd MacLellan. Ducks coach Randy Carlyle will now take him to school - CS Game 1: ANA 2 SJS 0 ANA: Niedermayer, S. (PPG, 05:18 in 3rd),
Getzlaf, R. (17:35 in 3rd)
