GAME RESULTS
1. BOSTON BRUINS VS. 6. CAROLINA HURRICANES
CAR WINS 4-3

GAME 7: CAR 3 BOS 2 (OT)

Scott Walker of the Hurricanes, Public Enemy #1 in Beantown since his game five sock to the eye of Aaron Ward failed to yield a suspension, scored the biggest goal of the season for the 'Canes at 18:46 of overtime, swatting a puck out of the air that beat Tim Thomas.

Milan Lucic of the Bruins scored the game-tying goal at 6:19 of the third period, from directly in front of Cam Ward's crease.

Former Bruin first round choice Sergei Samsonov again stung Boston, tonight beating Tim Thomas at 7:45 of the second period to give Carolina a 2-1 lead.

Walker, hero of tonight's game, was inserted alongside Eric Staal and Ryan Whitney, offensive stalwarts of the team.  Walker's grit brought huge results as the Hurricanes, who won a game seven against New Jersey in a fantastic two-goal finish in the last moments of the previous series.

Power play: CAR 0-2, BOS 0-4. Shots on goal: CAR 37-36.

Phil Kessel scored two goals, one at the end of the first, the next 4:40 into the second period.  Milan Lucic banged home a Michael Ryder rebound and the puck stuck in the twine, roofing it to Cam Ward's glove side, high at 12:21 of the third period.

GAME 4: CAR 4 BOS 1

BOS: Savard, M. (PPG, 02:37 in 2nd)

The Carolina Hurricanes pushed the number-one seeded Boston Bruins to the brink of elimination Friday night, with Jussi Jokinen providing the game winner for Carolina for the second game in a row.

Cam Ward got things going for Carolina by stoning P.J. Axelsson of the Bruins on a shorthanded breakaway opportunity after a turnover by Hurricane defenseman Joe Corvo, at 4:33 of the first period.  Eric Staal fed off the big save, slamming home a loose puck during the same man advantage.

Tim Thomas made some big saves, and the Bruins departed the ice at the end of the first period down just 1-0, but it could have been worse.

Early in the second, on a power play opportunity, Mark Recchi's shot deflected off Ward, but Marc Savard was there to slam it home from Ward's right side.

The Hurricanes proceeded to score three third period goals.  Jussi Jokinen put in a rebound during a power play, which proved to be the winner, from in close, to Thomas' left.  Ex-Bruin Sergei Samsonov stung his former club turning on the jets in the offensive zone, skating around two Bruin defenders and beating Thomas to put the 'Canes up, 3-1, at 14:31.  Staal scored his second of the game and ninth of the playoffs just 70 seconds later, tying Sid Crosby for the goal scoring lead thus far this playoff season.

Carolina outshot Boston, 31-21.  Power play: Carolina, 2-4; Washington, 1-3.

GAME 3: CAR 3 BOS 2 (OT)

CAR: Staal, E. (PPG, 16:49 in 2nd), Samsonov, S. (17:58 in 2nd), Jokinen, J. (02:48 in 1st OT)
BOS: Lucic, M. (08:43 in 1st), Recchi, M. (09:03 in 3rd)

Milan Lucic gave the Bruins a first period lead from in close, beating Cam Ward.

In the second period, Carolina got two goals in quick succession from Eric Staal and former Bruin Sergei Samsonov. During a Carolina power play, Staal stole the puck from Steve Montador while the Bruins defenseman was trying to clear it from behind goalie Tim Thomas' net. Staal beat Thomas high to the stick side corner, tying the game. At even strength just 69 seconds later, Samsonov took a pass from Scott Walker and beat Thomas on a shot from the slot to make it 2-1.

Mark Recchi scored the game-tying goal at 9:03 of the third.

At 2:48 of overtime, Hurricane Jussi Jokinen scored to win the game, giving Carolina the 2-1 series lead. --JB

GAME 2: CAR 3 BOS 0

CAR: Corvo, J. (02:30 in 2nd), Cullen, M. (SHG, 07:32 in 2nd), Staal, E. (EN, 19:32 in 3rd)

Cam Ward stopped 36 shots as the Hurricanes shut out the Bruins Sunday night in Boston.

In the second period, Chad Larose thought that he had given the Hurricanes a 3-0 lead, when his shot caromed from the post behind Bruins netminder Tim Thomas to the crossbar, then landed on the red line and bounced back out.  Despite a video review that showed the puck clearly over the line, the NHL's situation room in Toronto ruled that the puck had not completely crossed the goal line. The video review of what had been ruled no goal did not reverse the call.

"This review was as difficult as we get," said Mike Murphy, Senior Vice President of Hockey Operations. "It took so much time because we need conclusive proof.  Even with all those tight views, I could not conclusively say that the puck was entirely across the goal line."

Cam Ward stopped 36 Boston shots.  Tim Thomas stopped 23 of 25 Carolina shots, with Eric Staal closing out Hurricane scoring with :28 left when he scored into an empty net.

PP: BOS 0-4 / CAR 0-1
